Hills Plants: A Century of Growth and Innovation
Founded in 1920 by George Hill in Epsom, Surrey, Hills Plants began as a modest market garden, selling produce through a local stall. Post World War II, George’s sons – Claude, Godfrey and Norman – joined the enterprise and expanded operations to include a florist shop in Epsom. Soon after this followed the construction of glasshouses for cultivating a diverse range of crops, such as chrysanthemums, daffodils, tulips, perennials, bedding plants and even tomatoes.
In 1972, Claude’s sons – Peter, Kevin and Guy – relocated the business to Chichester, West Sussex. Since then, the company has expanded to over five acres of ornamental plant production. In 2007, a significant two acre production area was added.
Today, Hills Plants is led by Greg and Morag Hill, with Greg proudly continuing the family legacy. The business has grown into a diverse and dedicated team, bringing together a wealth of experiences, cultures and backgrounds. While much has evolved over the years, one things remains the same – our shared passion for growing high-quality, sustainable houseplants.
Now in it’s forth generation, Hills Plants has developed a deep understanding of the UK market. Supplying directly to UK supermarkets since the 1980s, our customer base has grown to include multiples, DIY chains, garden centres and independent business alike.
In 2017, we proudly launched The Little Botanical – our consumer facing brand that brings beautifully packaged, low-maintenance houseplants directly to customers across the UK. Designed to make indoor greenery simple and stylish, The Little Botanical pairs carefully curated pots with our best loved plants, along with a handpicked selection of modern houseplant accessories.
